Building a Gazebo

Marshalls select only the best western red cedar wood available. Famed for its durability and extrordinary resistance to rot and decay your gazebo will give you many years of use. Cedar has a warm, natural reddish brown colour that looks superb in any garden setting. Its pleasant aroma is enjoyed by humans, but acts as a repellent to insects, moths and vermin.

Gazebos from Marshalls come supplied in DIY kit form for self assembly. Full comprehensive instructions are supplied, together with all the components required to construct your garden building. All cedar wood components are pre-treated to ensure long life. If you wish to preserve this colour you can re-treat every few years, however if you prefer a more natural look and don't re-treat the summerhouse the cedar will fade to its beautiful natural silvery grey appearance.

We do provide at additional cost a gazebo installation service in the UK, however, if you are contemplating building your own gazebo then follow the steps below.
Constructing gazebos is a relatively simple process and comprehensive written instructions will be sent with all gazebos and outdoor buildings purchased.

Step 1.

Laying out Your Gazebo kit

Laying out Your Gazebo kit

Constructing gazebos should start by laying out and positioning all of the components of the garden structure to assist with identification. This process is the same whichever garden building you have purchased from Marshalls. Please note that no treatment is required to any of the gazebo kit as the western red cedar wood is saturated with natural preservative oil, rendering it virtually immune to decay.

Step 2.

Starting Construction

Starting Construction

Please note – erecting gazebos should not be undertaken during adverse weather conditions for safety reasons. Once a suitable site has been chosen, the individual floor panels should be positioned face down on the surface. These floor panels should then be fixed together using the screws provided. All Marshalls' outdoor buildings come with pre-treated floor bearers for prolonged life, so no extra treatment is required at this stage.

Step 3.

Checking your Gazebo Base

Checking your Gazebo Base

When all of the floor panels have been fixed to each other, turn the floor over (be careful so as not to injure yourself, as the floor may be heavy). Attach the floor skirt using screws provide. Please note - it is very important to check with a spirit level that the gazebo base is sitting level before continuing.

Step 4.

Placing your Gazebo Roof Supports

Placing your Gazebo Roof Supports

One by one, place your gazebo roof supports into the slots of the gazebo floor, but do not screw them into place at this point.

Step 5.

Erecting the Walls

Erecting the Walls

The next step in your garden building construction is to add the wall panels. With the first gazebo panel in place you should start to see the outdoor building taking shape. Fit all the other panels into your desired configuration, attaching each one to the roof supports with the screws provided. With the solid wall panels in place, the lattice panels can also be fixed to the roof supports with the screws provided.

Step 6.

Setting the Wall Spacers

Setting the Wall Spacers

Place the decorative wall spacers into position and attach. The walls of the building should now be completed. At this point the bottom of the roof supports should be screwed to the floor. As a final check before building the roof, ensure all the wall and floor fixing screws are secure.

Step 7.

Assembling Gazebo Roof Sections

The roof trusses should then be slotted into place and joined to one another at the centre of the roof through the decorative finial using the screws provided.

Step 8.

Final Securing of the Cedar Slatted Gazebo Roof

Final Securing of the Cedar Slatted Gazebo Roof

Every Marshalls' Gazebo comes with an attractive cedar slatted roof, and the next step is to fix these roof sections to your gazebo. Carefully place the sections in place and attach to the roof trusses.

Step 9.

Fixing Weathering Strips to the Roof

Fixing Weathering Strips to the Roof

To further prolong the life of your outdoor building, weathering strips are provided that complement the cedar slatted roof. These strips help prevent any water ingress through the roof into your outdoor buildings. Locate and fix all the strips to the roof using the fixings provided.

Step 10.

Your Finished Marshalls Gazebo

Your Marshalls' gazebo is now complete, all that is left to do now is pour yourself a glass of bubbly and relax in your new Marshalls garden living area.
